The concept of having the wood is also that you can sit on it comfortably without burning yourself. Other materials would heat up to much and be dangerous to touch. The smell from a wood cabin sauna is also enchanting and will be lovely to sit in and relax.
The source of heat in your sauna can come from several options the most popular one is a stove, which has a rock pit sat on the top which heats up. You can then pour a small amount of water on the rocks, which will give you the steam and more intense heat. If you use the sauna often then you may want to spend a bit more on it however if you will only use it once in awhile than a cheaper option may be a good idea.
